Tragically, on 25 May 2018, a majority 66.4% (1,429,821) of the Irish citizens voted in the referendum to give their government authority to make policies permitting elective abortion; and 33.6% (723,632) voted against the measure.  We commend and encourage every one of you who laid down your lives during the past year or more to defend the right to life of children in the womb, including of your opponents.  Your efforts were not in vain, and you are not defeated.  Seek the Lord, and you will find hope and encouragement in Him, and wisdom for the path forward to restore the church to its noble and unified calling, that can then be an instrument to restore your nation.

The Constitution of Ireland formerly guaranteed "the right to life of the unborn" child, and required the State "by its laws to defend and vindicate that right" (Article 40.3.3.).  This vote removed that guarantee and replaced it with these words: "Provision may be made by law for the regulation of termination of pregnancy" (36th Amendment Bill 2018).  This was, to our knowledge, the second time in history that the majority of citizens of a country voted directly (instead of their government making the policy first) to authorize killing babies in the womb.  The first was Portugal in 2007.  Thus, each one who voted "yes," and those who wrote or advocated for the bill, will share in culpability for the innocent blood shed as a result of this policy change.

Ecuador-rally at Natl Assembly re aborti

Ecuadorians thank the legislators who voted for life on 17 September 2019.  Thank you Esteban and your fellow pro-life legislators.

"The chief purpose of government is to protect life.  Abandon that and you have abandoned all."

Thomas Jefferson, 3rd president of the United States

“Destruction of the embryo in the mother’s womb is a violation of the right to live which God has bestowed upon this nascent life. … To raise the question whether we are here concerned already with a human being or not is merely to confuse the issue. The simple fact is that God certainly intended to create a human being and that this nascent human being has been deliberately deprived of his life. And that is nothing but murder.”

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Martyr  (1906-1945), Ethics (his last book)
